How do I contact the
fire department?
In an emergency call 911,
this will send you to the Hamilton County Communications Center. They
will obtain the information and send us to the appropriate location for
your emergency. Our non-emergency
number for the Newtown station is 513-271-6770
and for headquarters is 513-271-3636.

How
do I become a member of the fire department?
All
members of our fire department must become a firefighter and an
emergency medical technician. Once
you have received the appropriate training, you may apply to our fire
district for a position. Applicants will be given a cognitive
skills test in addition to a physical test.
Local
training
is available through Great Oaks Joint Vocational School District and
Cincinnati State Community and Technical College. Emergency Medical
Technician classes also available through University of Cincinnati
Raymond Walters College. For

What is the difference
between an EMT and a Paramedic?
An EMT can perform basic
life support procedures.
EMT’s can take vital signs, bandage and splint injuries,
administer oxygen, use a semi-automatic defibrillator, and provide oral
and nasopharyngeal airways. A
Paramedic can perform basic and advanced life support procedures
including the functions
of an EMT plus start intravenous lines (IV’s), administer cardiac and
pain management medications, perform chest decompressions, and utilize
cardiac monitor/defibrillator to diagnose and treat life threatening
heart rhythms.
